It's a misconception that what an artist must do is come up with something original. What an artist most often must do is come up with a fresh look at the same, old reality. This is an A&J riff on a situation you'd seen many times before in Blondie. I suppose whether an artist succeeds or not is up to the individuals who are exposed to the artist's work.
