Dauphin Island is a beach community situated offshore on
a barrier island. A majority of the homes are vacation
homes, and the damage here is more what we're accustomed
to seeing in these situations. Nevertheless, Dauphin
Island was hit extremely hard by the storm surge of
Hurricane Katrina, and property damage was tremendous.
However, the point I want to make is that Dauphin Island
is 60 miles east of Pass Christian, MS, and over 100
miles east of New Orleans.
